“Was not their mistake once more bred of the life of slavery that they had been living?—a life which was always looking upon everything, except mankind, animate and inanimate—‘nature,’ as people used to call it—as one thing, and mankind as another, it was natural to people thinking in this way, that they should try to make ‘nature’ their slave, since they thought ‘nature’ was something outside them” — William Morris

So here's my guide to object-oriented ontology for the curious.

Read this pithy statement by Ian Bogost.

Then watch Ian's excellent video, “Seeing Things.”
Watch this video by me.

Now listen to this talk by Graham Harman.

Listen to this class by me.

Series of OOO classes by Professor Tim.

Objects at Rest, Dreaming: Mental final project by my student Kevin O'Connor.

Then you can listen to the first ten minutes of this, in which I introduce OOO.

Now ready for some reading?

Start with this basic tutorial by Graham Harman.

Have a look at The Quadruple Object, a concise and lucid account of OOO by Graham.

Hi Tim,
Having just 'got into' OOO, I was a bit dismayed to read that, 'the SR/OOO wave has crested, crashed, and receded'. That was here:

Do you have any response to the comments?
Great classes by the way. Really accessible.

There's always an envelope that envelopes us. We will never know not only not know what a fly knows but we will never know it's Being, nor our own. This is because Being cannot in principle be Known, and, as Wilfred Bion said, potatoes can't be sung, only eaten or peeled (CM)

Hi Tim
We just held our family assembly (three generations an three continents) followed by 16 of the extended family making the emergency declaration (ie joining the Whatsapp group).see www.familyclimateemergency.net/. Not amazing or utopian just encouraging and supporting each other through the tough transition.
Best wishes
Daniel

Proposal for "Geological Net-Zero" Resolution at COP26

1/For every amount of fossil carbon extracted, the same amount of carbon must be geologically sequestered (* details in note below) in the same year.

2/A Supranational Entity will be set up to oversee geological sequestration operations around the world.

3/To accelerate this, a "Brown Climate Fund" will be created, driving the simplification of the complex web of existing taxes, subsidies, and fossil fuel financing.

4/A specific indicator will inform consumers about the fossil carbon footprint of their purchases.

This is in line with the following TED talk from Pr Allen, Oxford University professor and IPCC climatologist:

"If we do decarbonize fossil fuels, we will stop global warning. And if we don't we won't. It's as simple as that. But it's going to take a movement to make this happen"
